’s defensive coordinator.Back in 2015, Durkin was rumored as a leading candidate to move into the DC spot for A&M. Then Aggie coach Kevin Sumlin opted to hire John Chavis away from LSU, viewed as a masterstroke that never quite materialized.
Elko crafted very solid defenses in four seasons, with 2021 being a good example. A&M was 14th nationally in total defense and third in scoring defense , behind only Georgia and Clemson. ”If you look at where we’ve been, we’ve been a little different at every stop just based on who the players are,” Durkin said. “And so, you know, I think you’ve got to play to your players’ strength.”
”Everybody says: is he four down or three down?” Fisher said. “Well he’s four down. But the point being is that we can mix three [linemen], we can do everything. There’s different reads and nuances …”He was hired off the Michigan staff as Maryland’s head coach in 2017, a rising star at 39. Things fell apart after a 6-7 start.
