A new round of Clotilda exploration work is expected to begin Monday.
This image of the submerged ruins of the slave ship Clotilda was produced by continual sidescan sonar in March 2020 and released by the Alabama Historical Commission.A new round of exploration on the slave ship Clotilda begins Monday, along with a community meeting to discuss the work and its goals.
The work is being funded by a $1 million state appropriation. “We are grateful to our governor and state legislature for supporting this ongoing process of exploration,” said Dr. Jim Day, Chairman of the Alabama Historical Commission. “The story of Clotilda and her passengers is compelling, and this historic site continues to reveal crucial details about the past.”
