The close poll results come despite millions of dollars in attack ads by Gov. Hochul, whose voters remain less committed than those supporting her Republican rival.
Marist Poll released Thursday
“There’s an enthusiasm gap, which partially offsets the huge registration advantages that the Democrats have, obviously, in New York,” Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion, told reporters of the poll findings. A total of 78% of registered Republicans plan on voting compared to 77% of independents and a relatively paltry 62% of Democrats.
Registered voters overall favor Hochul 51% to 41% while U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer has a 54% to 34% edge over Republican challenger Joe Pinion, according to the poll.
