New Jersey is dedicating a ‘food trail’ to Anthony Bourdain BourdainDay

The New Jersey travel and tourism board has created the Anthony Bourdain Food Trail — an homage to the Jersey-born chef, who grew up in Leonia — featuring 10 of the restaurants he visited for a 2015 episode of his CNN travel and food show “Parts Unknown.”

Another counter-service casual spot on the list is Hiram’s in Fort Lee, known for its deep-fried hot dog, which Bourdain revealed he had been visiting since the 1950s. “I come here to feed my soul,” he said, while chowing down on a cheeseburger, hot dog and fries. ‘Even after international fame, he never forgot his Jersey roots.’ —New Jersey Assemblyman Paul Moriarty The food destinations reflect Bourdain’s mission to show off a different side of the Garden State beyond its expansive beaches and farmland. He instead showcased the state’s lesser-known local restaurants for his Emmy-award winning “Parts Unknown” show.

There is no date set on when the trail will officially kick off. The New Jersey Tourism office did not immediately return a MarketWatch request for comment. A representative for Moriarty said the restaurants will advertise that they are part of the food trail, and there will be no extra charge for visiting restaurants on the trail.
