SPEAKER Martin Romualdez said Wednesday he expects the creation of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute's 13-story hemodialysis center would save more Filipinos from kidney ailments requiring dialysis.He made the statement as he and other officials broke ground on the more than P2-billion facilities that will be situated in the NKTI's lot that has been occupied by illegal business retailers for nearly 40 years.'Today, we are not just building an edifice.
He added that a dialysis machine that would be used in the facility was equivalent to a life that would be saved, a family that would be given hope, and a dream that could probably come true.'They will have immediate access to modern facilities and quality services to alleviate their pain,' Romualdez said.One Filipino develops chronic renal failure every hour, or 120 Filipinos per million per year, according to the Philippine Society of Nephrology.
