Its owner Chris Sclafani comes from a family that has been baking bread for more than 100 years. In the 1970s, Sclafani’s dad married a Jewish woman, whose family made bagels. The elder Sclafani combined the two and opened bagel and sandwich shops across the Northeast. His son, Chris Sclafani, is bringing the concept to Dallas.How good? How long does Chris Sclafani, owner of Sclafani’s New York Bagels and Sandwiches, kettle-boil his bagels? That's a family secret, he says. At lunch and dinner, Sclafani’s does hamburgers and fries, Philly cheesesteaks, meatball subs and cold sandwiches served on house-made bread. They’ll use bread recipes that have been in the family for 100 years.The first piece of bagel that came out of the oven sits under a crucifix at Sclafani's, which opens Monday, Jan. 24, 2022.
