The incoming commissioner faces hurdles that caught the conference off-guard this time last year.

ARLINGTON — This time last year, Bob Bowlsby was still the commissioner of a stable 10-team league. He didn’t expect either of those things to change after Big 12 media days wrapped up.
And at the end of this month, after a decade on the job, Bowlsby will officially pass to torch to the conference’s fifth commissioner, former Brooklyn Nets and Roc Nation executive Brett Yormark. Of course, Yormark on Wednesday had to address the constant rumblings about the Longhorns and Sooners bolting for the SEC a year or two earlier than 2025, which coincides with the expiration of the Big 12’s media rights deals with ESPN and FOX.
He added: “From my perspective, I have a lot to learn. But in any situation like this, I always look for a win-win scenario. That being said, it’s important that whatever happens is in the best interest of this conference.”
