Rochester, N.Y. A new plan was announced this week with hopes of restoring peace on Rochester's streets by curbing gun violence.
Rochester City Councilmember Willie Lightfoot and Council President Miguel Melendez joined the ROC Against Gun Violence Coalition to announce a new comprehensive plan to tackle gun violence in the city.
Rochester, N.Y. — A new plan was announced this week with hopes of restoring peace on Rochester's streets.joined Rochester City Councilmember Willie Lightfoot to roll out a new comprehensive plan that aims to combat gun violence through a series of short-term and long-term measures. The plan includes adopting a code of conduct for gun dealerships, empowering researchers and journalists to analyze gun trafficking patterns in and around Rochester, and creating community-focused spiritual and youth development opportunities. The 14-page document also calls on aid and support from nearby municipalities."This plan was made by the people, for the people, and will continue to evolve as we receive feedback," Lightfoot said.
The plan comes just a few months after a recent spike in gun violence, and a report that shows most of the weapons used in the city are illegal.
