A one-of-a-kind book is telling the story of South Texas accordionists and the musical art form they helped develop.
“This is an accordion book made out of an accordion. It’s an artist book. It’s one of a kind,” said Steph Noell, Special Collections Librarian at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
“The Real Tejano Conjunto Accordion Book” was created by artist Peter Thomas and his wife Donna Thomas. “We commissioned it from Peter Thomas, who lives out in California, and he has made other accordion books in the past. We asked him to make one specifically about accordionists in San Antonio and South Texas, and he pulled this one of a kind piece for us,” Noell said.“We are always looking for interesting ways to engage students so they can learn about the history of San Antonio and South Texas,” said Amy Rushing, Assistant Dean for Special Collections at UTSA.
To see this work in person, you must schedule a visit to the John Peace Library Reading Room on UTSA’s main campus.
