Several speakers appeared at the podium including 9/11 survivor Mark Shore of Edgewater, a 1982 Evanston Township High School graduate who grew up in Evanston. Shore moved to New York City in 1998 and was working in an office in Tower 2 of the World Trade Center on that 9/11 day.He now works as a professor of finance at DePaul University and teaches courses on risk management which includes discussions about disaster recovery.

Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss told the audience, “Every Sept. 11, we hold this ceremony to remember, to say thank you.” “My parents, my mother, I think, called me to tell me what was going on,” Biss told the Evanston Review. “My brother was living in New York at the time so that was very scary.”
