I cover all manner of console and PC games, but if it’s about looting or shooting, I’m definitely there. If I’m watching something, it’s usually science fiction, horror or superheroic.
I have seen a lot of bad decisions in my time covering the streaming industry, but the idea that Netflix would to try to recreate the fan fervor of the release of the Snyder Cut of Zack Snyder’s Justice League with his pair of Rebel Moon movies is about theSnyder’s position was that Netflix wanted a more appealing PG-13 style blockbuster but of course he wanted an R-rated one so they made a deal to make both, and both were shot at the same time.
Now, Netflix has released a red band trailer for the August 2 premiere of Rebel Moon Part 1 and 2, which will not be split up in terms of different release dates. They promise the “True Vision” of Snyder will be realized with the film: The main difference in the trailer from the original, other than a robot with nipples, is that the action scenes now have 300-style CGI blood spattered all over them, a mild improvement from the absolutely ridiculous blood-free original cut that made all the fight scenes look purposefully butchered in the editing room. Which they were!There is a lot of new footage in the trailer and Snyder says the cuts are so different they’re like entirely different movies.
It’s impossible to overstate just how bad the original two Rebel Moon movies are. It’s his lowest critically-scored work ever,have positive scores, so it’s not some critical elite cabal working against him. Both films have rotten audience scores as well, so even Snyder die-hards couldn’t shift the narrative.
I’ll watch it. I mean, I have to see this through. But I don’t think many others are going to bother giving it a shot, and it’s hard to blame them.Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
