The CDC says findings from a 2021 survey underscore the urgency for families and schools to intervene in worsening mental health among teens.

But as of 2021, teen girls are now more likely than boys to have drunk alcohol , used marijuana , used e-cigarettes , or misused prescription opioids . The survey also found disparities among students who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, questioning or another non-heterosexual identity. While many of the trends have substantially worsened over the past decade, the report's authors do point out that a handful of indicators are now moving"in the right direction."
