The hosts were being dominated by Colorado at Enterprise Center and Kadri’s first of two goals in a stretch of 3:30 caused two St. Louis players to lose their composure during the second period.
ST. LOUIS — Local villain but Colorado hero Nazem Kadri scored a goal on Monday night in Game 4 — the second of four consecutive for the Avalanche and the first of three for him — and the St. Louis Blues couldn’t stand it.
Kadri, who received racial online threats the previous 48 hours and had the local police and NHL investigating, had three goals and four points to power the Avs to the brink of the conference finals for the first time since 2002. He scored on 100% of his shots . Kadri said St. Louis police showed him a long list of threats. “Racial, threatening, all that,” he said. “There was a lot of people saying a lot of things and I got to tune it out. I’ll step up when I have to.”
At 5:30, Buchnevich and Perron attacked Kadri in front of the St. Louis bench. They got their licks in but were assessed roughing and cross-checking penalties to send Colorado on a 5-on-3 power play. Johnson added: “It was awesome. I felt so good for him. Imagine being in his situation. It can’t be a fun thing. No human being should receive that kind of treatment, especially with a hockey game. It’s just insane. That being said, I think he liked being the villain tonight and he certainly stepped up for us.”
