One of the more challenging responsibilities for technology leaders is knowing when it's time to update core infrastructure systems. In many cases, older solutions that have served an organization well require little fuss and simply do the job. As a result, there's little motivation to make a change.
As Microsoft Active Directory is more than two decades old, more organizations are migrating applications to the cloud. This most often requires refactoring or rewriting each application to work with modern identity systems.In its early days as networks coalesced, email systems advanced and the internet took shape, AD emerged as an indispensable and widely used enterprise tool.
Meanwhile, not all apps can be migrated to the cloud. Some may need to remain on-premises and cannot be integrated with cloud identity systems. This forces organizations to manage a complex co-existence of AD and cloud IDPs, with multiple security policy silos that require constant care and maintenance.
