This week, transportation officials across the country are urging young drivers to stay vigilant for National Teen Driver Safety Week.
Jeff Bowman, the law enforcement liaison for Highway Safety Network advised, “You can’t just say, well, I’m gonna wear my seatbelt whenever I think we’re gonna be in a bad situation. It’s not like that you know these things are going to occur. So, you need to be wearing your seatbelt at all times. You need to be driving responsibly at all times.”
According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration , a total of 2,600 people were killed in crashes involving a teen driver in 2021. “You don’t want your family to get a phone call,” said Posey. “You don’t want somebody else’s family to get a phone call. You don’t. It sucks – and it lives with you for the rest of your life.”
