A New Jersey driver died Tuesday when an SUV crashed through a guardrail on the Garden State Parkway and struck several trees in Ocean County, authorities said.
Rebecca Goodwin, 49, of Tuckerton was traveling north on the Parkway when the crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m. near milepost 71.1 in Ocean Township, according to New Jersey State Police. A preliminary investigation showed the SUV struck the left guardrail, ran off the road, went down an embankment, overturned and struck multiple trees, State Police Sgt. Philip Curry said in an email Wednesday.
“The crash remains under investigation,” Curry said. The left northbound lane of the Parkway was closed for about 4 hours, which resulted in moderate congestion, authorities said.
