A 25-year-old Passaic County man died Sunday after he was found stabbed in the backyard of a home near several businesses in Passaic, authorities said.
Police were called about 7:15 a.m. to the area of Passaic and Third streets on a report of a stabbing, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes. People in the area directed the officers to the backyard of a home in the 100 block of Passaic Street, where they found Richard Batista face-down on the ground, Valdes said in a statement. The area where he was found is home to several residences and businesses.
Batista, of Passaic, was taken to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, the prosecutor said. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 1-877-370-PCPO or email
