An estimated 185,000 New Jersey residents have Alzheimer's disease, a brain disorder that slowly destroys memory, thought and language.
Maryland topped the list at 12.9% of its residents 65 and older, followed by New York. The northeast and southeastern parts of the country showed higher incidences of Alzheimer’s, the study found.
“There are over 185,000 people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in N.J.,” Dr. Michal Schnaider Beeri, director of the Herbert and Jackeline Krieger Klein Alzheimer’s Research Center in the Brain Health Institute at Rutgers University, told NJ Advance Media in an email.
