As musician Lady July performed at the Rabbit Hole on Adams Avenue Saturday, her most enthusiastic fan twirled in front of the stage, imitating the singer on his own tiny guitar.
Decorated with strings of lights, silk streamers and flowers, the church sanctuary served as the main stage for the festival. Other performers scheduled for the main stage included singer-songwriter Gregory Page, the bluegrass Americana band Dead Rock West and Jerry Rainey and Joey Harris of the Beat Farmers. Outside, food booths offered fare ranging from African meat and veggie platters to Asian pork buns and Cajun gumbo and jambalaya.
Adams Avenue Unplugged began in 2012 and has continued since then with a brief hiatus during the pandemic. The concept for the event dates back further, to the Adams Avenue Roots Festival, organized in 1994 by local music researcher and record store owner Lou Curtiss, and before that to his San Diego Folk Festival, which launched in 1967.
