It\u0027s become a major sore point for the Sask. Party, which has only raised the sales tax — and to a higher level than it was under the NDP.
During the 2017 provincial budget debacle, this government increased the PST by one percentage point to six per cent broadened the sales tax to include previously-untaxed-by-the-province restaurant meals and so-called “junk food.”
This is so. But, as the NDP pointed out, it’s also clearly confusing for today’s consumers, who need to pinch pennies more than ever in these inflationary times. Interestingly, the government’s long-term surplus budget projects a drop from a billion dollars in 2023-24 to $208 million in 2024-25, $134 million in 2025-26 and $101 million in 2025-27.
