Motown Museum to host weekend celebration of Berry Gordy and 60 years of Motown in September
The Motown Museum will host a weekend of events Sept. 21-23 in Detroit, honoring the company's founder with Hitsville Honors: Celebrating Berry Gordy & 60 Years of Motown on Sept. 22 at the city's Orchestra Hall.
Members of the Temptations, the Four Tops, Martha Reeves & the Vandellas and the Supremes' Mary Wilson are expected to attend, along with Ne-Yo and Detroit-based Big Sean and Kem. Tickets run $50-$1,000 and go on sale Aug. 1 throughOn Sept. 21, a free Motown Gospel Concert will take place at Detroit World Outreach, featuring performances by Regina Belle, Kierra "Kiki" Sheard, Tye Tribbet & G.A.
The Motown Museum, established in 1985 by Esther Edwards Gordy, is planning to expand into a 50,000-square-foot facility that will house more artifacts from the company's archives, interactive exhibits and more. Specific plans for the expansion have yet to be announced, though the museum did unveil a new Dancing in the Street Park next to the current Hitsville USA house during May.
