Mötley Crüe have never been shy about sharing the dirt, but guitarist Mick Mars may have revealed one big secret his bandmates may have wanted kept quiet

According to a profits participation filing this week by the 71-year-old six-stringer today in LA Superior Court, Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil and Tommy Lee fake playing and singing their songs while on tour.

Although Mars had indicated that the 12 U.S. stadium dates would be his last shows while touring, the 12 anticipated shows ultimately expanded to 36 shows, and Mars performed at every single one of them, in constant pain.

Interestingly, as if to blunt any pushback from the filing, now Nashville-based Mars does admit he wasn’t always on the right power chord during his last few months with the band. “Mars, at times on the tour, did play the wrong chords, but not due to any cognitive dysfunction,” the 28-page petition says. “He was playing live, and his in-ear monitors were constantly malfunctioning, causing Mars to be unable to hear his own instrument.

Having ended another tour of the U.S. and Mexico last month, and getting ready to go to South America Europe later this spring before coming back to tour America again, Sixx, Neil, Lee and their 10Street managers wanted to cut Mars compensation to around 5% and have him signed over all his rights to the band’s assets.
