PUBLISHED 5:54 PM CDT Jun. 08, 2022SAN ANTONIO — Stephanie Cruz and her 6-year-old are volunteering at the San Antonio Food Bank.

“Have her understand how important it is to help others,” Cruz said. “So she doesn’t take for granted the situation that we’re in.”“That will be distributed to our neighbors who are in need of extra love during this difficult time,” said Mendy Escamilla, San Antonio Food Bank’s director of volunteer services.“It was super hard,” Cruz said. “I made sure to reach out to all my teacher friends, to her teacher to make sure they’re okay. Because they were just as impacted.

As a parent, she’s realizing school shootings are an unfortunate reality. It’s something she’s trying to get her daughter to understand as she goes to first grade. “The drills that they teach them in school, it’s extremely important to take them seriously,” Cruz said. “To make sure she listens to her teacher and follows directions.”

Aaron Guerrero says he checked on teachers and friends with young kids after the shooting in Uvalde. Being from a small town, he was in disbelief.Cruz says this shooting is just another reminder to be grateful. But also making sure her kid is ready for an active shooter situation.LATEST NEWS
