A 31-year-old woman was killed and her twin six-year-olds were injured Thursday night in Hercules when a stolen SUV being chased by police crashed into the car they were in.
HERCULES — A 31-year-old woman died and her 6-year-old twin sons were injured Thursday night when a stolen SUV being chased by Hercules police crashed into their vehicle, authorities said.In a news release Friday, Hercules police Chief Joseph Vasquez said that about 7:27 p.m. Thursday, Hercules police were tipped by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office about a stolen 2021 Mazda SUV possibly heading toward Hercules on eastbound Interstate 80.
The officer initiated a short pursuit of the SUV before it collided into a 2017 Nissan passenger vehicle, which had been traveling southbound on Willow Ave and was making a left turn onto eastbound 4th Avenue, the release said. After the collision, the driver of the Mazda immediately got out the vehicle and ran northbound onto Parker Ave. Officers found the suspect a short time later at a nearby liquor store. He was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility; authorities did not say if he suffered any injuries in the crash.
