As he reflected on his humble beginnings, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Saturday suggested that Filipinos elect a "crisis manager" as their next president.
“Ako po tingin ko kailangan natin ng crisis manager. Hindi po sa pagbubuhat ng bangko, buong buhay ko po krisis ang kinaharap ko,” Moreno said at the first presidential debate organized by the Commission on Elections. “Bilang basurero at 10 years old, side car boy, artista, hindi nakapag-aral sa gobyerno, lahat po ‘yun buong tapang ko pong hinarap upang malagpasan ang mga krisis sa buhay. ‘Yan po ang gagawin ko… kung ako ang bibigyan niyo ng pagkakataon maging pangulo,” he added.
Moreno reiterated his and running mate Willie Ong’s vow to focus on life and livelihood should they win the elections on May 9. “At kung ekonomiya ang pag-uusapan, ang mahalagang ekonomiya sa akin ay ekonomiya sa loob ng tahanan ng bawat pamilyang Pilipino,” he said.
