Resident expressed their frustrations about Montgomery 's crime to the City Council . MONTGOMERY , Ala. - A video showing about 50 rounds being fired in the Stoney brooke subdivision left onlookers shocked at Tuesday’s Montgomery City Council meeting. The man who captured the video, Bobby Bentz, spoke out and blamed short-term rental properties as being at the root of the problem.
He was just one of a number of people at a Stop the Violence rally held before the council meeting, where people gathered in prayer. One of the loudest voices at the rally and the City Council meeting was pastor and nonprofit organizer Jamel Brown. Then the focus shifted to possible solutions. Mayor Steven Reed said he was in talks with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency for help and there was also a proposal to raise police officers’ pay. That proposal went back to committee, as some council members were opposed to a raise in garbage fees to pay for the raises.
