14 monkeypox cases in Dallas County
residents since the start of the outbreak, including local transmission connected to a previously reported incident. This is up from previously the reported four monekypox cases among county residents. All four of those cases are local residents who have self-identified as men who have sex with other men and reported a history of international travel.
Health officials say despite the increase of cases, the threat of monkeypox to the general Dallas County population remains low. Monkeypox is rare and does not spread easily between people without close, personal, skin-to-skin contact. Anyone who has been in close contact with someone who has monkeypox is at risk. DCHHS says the monkeypox vaccine is in low supply and can only be offered to those with known skin-to-skin contact with a confirmed monkeypox case.
