Disney has revealed the live-action version of Moana arrives in summer 2025 as the MCU movies in surrounding time slots face major delays.
Disney's live-action remake of Moana has received a release date of summer 2025. The Moana remake was announced in April, with Hamilton Broadway director Thomas Kail attached to direct. Dwayne Johnson, who voiced Maui in the original Moana, acted as the spokesperson for the remake. He will also be reprising his role in the live-action version.
Now, Disney has confirmed the live-action Moana remake will be arriving in theaters on June 27, 2025. This announcement comes amid major shake-ups for Disney's film schedule, including huge delays for movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Moana will be released two weeks after an untitled Pixar film and one month before an untitled Disney movie.

While Johnson is expected to reprise his role as Maui in the Moana live-action remake, Moana voice actor Auli'i Carvalho will not be returning as the film's titular character. Instead, she will be joining Johnson as a producer and helping to find the best actor to portray Moana in live-action. It is currently unknown if any other cast members will be returning aside from Johnson.
The announcement of a release date for Moana comes as film series like the MCU, Star Wars, and Avatar have their releases pushed back. While Moana is currently scheduled for June 2025, those waiting to see Moana's story in live-action may need to keep an eye on the release date in case it shifts. However, with Johnson returning for the project and Disney announcing a release date, it's likely the Moana live-action remake will still come to theaters in summer 2025.
