A 16-man team was deployed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to Misamis Occidental and Misamis Oriental on Friday, Dec. 30, to conduct humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations there following the heavy flooding caused by the impact of a shearline in Mindanao.MMDA General Manager Procopio Lipana said the contingent was composed of personnel from the Public Safety Division and Road Emergency Group of the agency.
“Their main task is to set up water filtration systems in communities with limited or no supply of clean and potable water,” Lipana said. The team brought to Misamis provinces 20 units of water purifier systems which are capable of filtering 180 gallons of water per hour.Based on the record of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council , there were seven areas across Northern Mindanao , Mimaropa , and Bicol that have experienced water supply interruption when shearline-induced rains hit the country during the Christmas weekend.
As of Friday, only one area has yet to restore the supply of water and it is located in Salay, Misamis Oriental.Affected communities were only given water ration by the local office of the Bureau of Fire Protection , it added.
