Metro Manila Council (MMC) President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said the 17 mayors in the National Capital Region (NCR) are seeking an investigation into the rising price of sugar being sold in markets in the metropolis. ManilaBulletin

Zamora said Metro Manila mayors will meet on Friday, May 5, and seek help from the Department of Trade and Industry on how the price of the basic commodity will be stabilized.

"We will coordinate with the DTI. Kasi dati pong ginawa natin a few months ago, tayo nga po ay nag-inspeksyon sa mga palengke upang siguraduhin na nasa tamang suggested retail price ang mga bilihin ," Zamora said in a radio interview. He also stressed the importance of having a strong coordination between the local government units and the DTI to help monitor the prices of commodities.Vendors who are found selling overpriced products will be penalized under City Ordinance 32, Series of 2008, or the Ordinance Creating the Local Price Control Coordinating Council.

The San Juan City Police, the Business Permit and License Office , and the city's Task Force Disiplina are tasked to implement the ordinance. “Yung sinasabing hindi pagsunod, it’s just a matter of creating a policy that the LGUs and the national government can follow ,” Zamora explained.“Kapag meron kayong ganyang mga nababalitaan, huwag kayong matakot na magsabi lalo na yung mga taga San Juan. Kung meron kayong nakikita sa ating Agora Market na nagbebenta ng mga alanganing halaga eh ipaalam ninyo sa akin.
