Estrada, 34, acquitted last week of first-degree murder and with the jury hung on second-degree murder, will face a new trial setting Monday for the March 2018 slaying of his father in Suisun City.
Acquitted last week of first-degree murder for the 2018 death of his father and with the jury then unable to reach a verdict of second-degree murder, Victor Alfonso Estrada, 34, of Fairfield, returned to his Solano County Jail cell and awaits a new trial date, The Reporter has learned.
By press time Tuesday, Shapiro had not responded to the Reporter’s request for comment on the trial’s outcome. She got Estrada to admit that, as he told investigators, he had a “verbal confrontation” with his father and at one time hit his father and kept hitting him, while his father was on the ground on March 24.
Showing jurors a video of the interview, she said Estrada, with then-Police Chief Timothy Mattos leading the interrogation, showed no remorse about killing his father and thought his father was “no good” and disrespectful. At one point, as he spoke with Mattos, Estrada appeared to make a joke about killing his father.
