Shortstop Jackson Merrill will represent the Padres in the All-Star Futures Game, his first invitation to the midseason prospect showcase.The 20-year-old Merrill is not only the Padres’ top prospect, he’s No. 12 in MLB.com’s top-100.
He’s hitting .266/.300/.414 with seven homers, 29 RBIs and nine steals in 59 games at high Single-A Fort Wayne, his first season in the Midwest League. Two bouts with flu-like symptoms slowed Merrill – the Padres’ first-rounder in 2021 – at the start of the season.Current Padres who have appeared in an All-Star Futures Game include Luis Campusano , Adrián Morejón , Fernando Tatis Jr. , Brent Honeywell , Josh Hader , Joe Musgrove , Gary Sanchez , Blake Snell , Xander Bogaerts , Manny Machado and Nelson Cruz .
