Microsoft's original dual-screen Surface Duo picks up a long-awaited update, and it could benefit everyone's Android experience.

Those who have the Surface Duo 2 already have these changes as the Duo 2 shipped with Android 11. This update brings the OG Duo up to the same software standard as the newer device, which allows for a more consistent experience across the whole family.
Hopefully this will nudge more developers - especially of larger apps such as Google’s client for Gmail - to use the hooks in Android to offer a better split screen experience. That immediately benefits the Duo and Duo 2, but with foldable looking to be the ‘look at our design skills’ smartphone of choice for many manufacturers, the improved UI of a dual-screen will make for apps better suited to multitasking across an unfolded screen.
