Meta Oversight Board urges investigation into platform’s role in amplifying misinformation
The social media giant has been advised to provide greater transparency on content removal and asses the platform's impact on public health in a report on covid policies.Meta’s Oversight Board — an independent panel the social media giant selected to deliberate its content decisions — has published a report that supports content moderation actions taken by Meta at the height of the covid pandemic.
Meta is being urged by the board to commission an impact assessment with a focus on how design features like Facebook’s newsfeed recommendation algorithms can amplify dangerous health-related misinformation.
