Fletcher's Malachi Witherspoon is the Times-Union's 35th Northeast Florida Athlete of the Week for high school sports in 2021-22.
He helped the Senators to the Gateway Conference baseball championship during the past week, pitching a one-hit shutout and batting .667 during the week. For the season, the senior pitcher/infielder is batting .482 with four home runs and 22 runs batted in, while holding an 8-1 record and 0.33 ERA as a pitcher.
He earned first place in a vote that also included Joy Akingbola , Courtney Brown , Sofia Chepenik , Chloe Gotto , Andrew Kelley , Reshawn Latimer , Violet Robbins and Camilo Rollins .
