Coach Steve Kalan was Sandra Endo's swim coach back at Van Nuys High School, and for four pivotal years, he taught her more than what she could have learned in the classroom.
Good Day LA's Sandra Endo introduces us to her mentor Coach Steve Kalan. He was her swim coach at Van Nuys High School.We are all shaped by people who have an impact on our lives, and if we are lucky, there are those who stick by us and guide us along the way.
"After all these years, here we are at a pool, just like old times! My home away from home," he said during his recent interview with Endo. Looking back, Endo says it was Coach Kalan who helped her grow as a team leader, to work hard not just for her own sake but to get the entire team motivated to be their best.
Kalan remembers Endo as a hard worker, which made an unfortunate moment from her senior year even more challenging.
