OAKLAND – McClymonds coach Michael Peters is contemplating his future after winning another Oakland Section championship and preparing his team for a Northern California regional game Friday night.
“A lot of people are saying I can’t leave yet and that I need to stay three more years, and a lot of it is selfishness. They’re worried about me staying for their kids, but then I have to stay for the next ones too.”McClymonds will play host to Lemoore on Friday in a Northern California Division 2-AA regional. The winner advances to the 2-AA state championship game on Dec. 9 at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo.
“I’ve been coaching for over 30 years, which is a lot,” said Peters, who graduated from McClymonds in 1986 and started his career as an assistant coach in 1992. “It’s been crazy, being around for decades and seeing kids change every season.” “She stayed here for me,” an emotional Peters told Bay Area News Group correspondent Mike Lefkow after Mackfor the 3-A state championship. “She stayed here for me until the end.”
