Ocean Gate Mayor Paul Kennedy, 66, is charged with three more counts of theft in connection with the new allegations, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday. Prosecutors allege Kennedy used money for personal expenses that had been donated to “Friends of Ocean Gate” for the re-election campaign of Kennedy and his running mates. He also used his job with the Ocean County Buildings and Grounds Department to get work done at his home on East Lakewood Avenue in Ocean Gate, authorities said.
In addition, Kennedy is also accused of selling a town conference table on Facebook Messenger for $250, the complaints say. It’s unclear if the sale went through.Kennedy also worked as a carpenter with the Ocean County Buildings and Grounds Department, where officials said he was suspended without pay.
