Lawrence Barlaan, a Grade 4 student at Muntinlupa Elementary School in Barangay Poblacion and a scholar of the city government, bagged a gold award at the 4th International Math Open for Young Achievers held in Singapore.
Barlaan and seven other students from the Philippines took home individual gold awards at the contest. He and his team also won second runner-up in the team competition.In the team competition, one team from the Philippines won as champion, five bagged first runners-up, and six took home second runners-up.
According to the IMOYA website, the onsite competition was participated in by the Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macao, and Indonesia.
