In a recorded video interview with The Manila Times, Phivolcs Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division chief Maria Antonia Bornas said the volcano's eruption is possible because it erupts quite frequently, pointing out that it last erupted in 2018.Mayon Volcano.
Mayon is known to erupt as soon as three years, or as later as ten years, so we are in that period of an eruption and then we have a dome at the summit, but this dome has been collapsing, so the likelihood of a magmatic eruption is quite high,' Bornas said.As of this writing, Mayon Volcano is under Alert Level 2, according to a Phivolcs advisory on Tuesday. Bornas explained that the recent rockfall events are causing the dome above the volcano to collapse.
