The fog even pushed into inland parts of the Bay Area on Tuesday morning.

"This is definitely a typical May gray type of scenario," said Roger Gass, a forecaster with the National Weather Service. The fog even pushed into inland areas on Tuesday morning, but Gass said skies will clear inland by this afternoon. Clouds will continue to hug the coast, however. Afternoon highs in the 80s to low 90s are forecast for the valleys of the North Bay, East Bay and South Bay, and Tuesday is likely to be the hottest day of the week for inland areas.at locations along the coast are expected to stay cool, in the upper 50s to low 70s, due to the marine influence.
"The fog comes off the Pacific Ocean," explained Gass."The inland areas heat up across the Central Valley. It's that push and pull of cooler marine influence air over the ocean. At nighttime, the winds diminish and the surface temperatures cool, and it allows that marine air push to come inland. Then late morning and afternoon, as surface temperatures rise, we mix out that marine mass that's in place. And that's how the interior areas are able to warm up.
Warm day ahead for those away from the immediate coastline with highs in the 80s to near 90. Here is a look at the Heat Risk for today. The Heat Risk product aims to provide a forecast risk of heat-related impacts over a 24 hour period.
