Mavis Staples may be 80-years-old, but her music career has hardly slowed down. Last year, she released the album, and today she shares a new song “All In It Together,” an optimistic tune meant to encourage camaraderie in the face of the global pandemic. Her frequent collaborator, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, co-wrote the song.
The song meant to advocate for looking out for others during this uncertain time, as it was released as a fundraiser for My Block, My Hood, My City, a Chicago non-profit that is helping out the elderly who have been impacted by COVID-19.“The song speaks to what we’re going through now — everyone is in this together, whether you like it or not,” said Staples in a statement. “It doesn’t matter how much money you have, what race or sex you are, where you live… It can still touch you.
