Things are starting to get a little weird with Marvel’s Avengers, but ultimately, the current situation seems to suggest what was inevitable for a while.
Work is scaling down on the game as Crystal Dynamics moves on to other projects, namely the Tomb Raider game they announced they’re making in Unreal Engine 5, and the developer helping Microsoft with the new Perfect Dark game., different than what I was told last year, and what Crystal Dynamics itself said as late as February. I was told before Spider-Man was released that a roadmap for 2022 Avengers content would be arriving before 2021 ended. That did not happen.
But now? It’s been cancelled completely, according some reddit replies surrounding the recent Jane Foster announcement: Some are accusing Crystal Dynamics of “lying” to me or the community but no, I definitely don’t think that’s what happened here. I simply think plans changed, and support for the game in 2022 has been scaled back to the point where offering a roadmap like they’ve done in the past does not make sense.
Crystal Dynamics just announced that Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor will be coming to the game, and she will function as some “mirror” version of Thor, where the two will probably share a good amount of their combat kit. But we did not even get a date for her, and we know that she is not in the next patch, the 2.4 update in May, and instead should be coming in 2.5, which could be June or even July.
