Mark Meadows, who served as President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, took the stand Monday to fight the criminal charges against him in a federal court rather than a Georgia state court.

Attorneys for Mr. Meadows say his trial should be moved to federal court because his actions were carried out as “part of his service as chief of staff.”

“There was a political component to certainly everything we did,” Mr. Meadows testified, adding that he was invited to “almost every meeting the president had.” The defendants have been charged in a sweeping indictment accusing them of racketeering and other crimes while trying to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
