The Recreation and Park Commission voted to approve the new harbor as Supervisors Peskin and Safai contemplated stopping it.
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Commission voted unanimously Thursday to move forward with a controversial project to construct a new harbor along Marina Green despite widespread outrage from residents.
The original plan was designed to clean up toxic waste left behind from a former gas plant in the East Harbor — the result of a $190 million settlement between The City and PG&E. Now, that plan includes the hotly contested West Harbor. “The waterfront path was designed in 1915 for the Panama Pacific Exposition by the best architects in the country,” Marina resident Patsy Fergusson said during Thursday’s meeting. “It was meant to provide respite from the busy hustle and bustle of the fair, and it’s been doing that for more than 100 years for all residents and tourists.”
“This work will include a financial feasibility study of the Marina with the objective of minimizing the number of slips in the West Harbor and identify opportunities to add additional slips in the East Harbor,” the statement said. Predawn earthquake alert test gives Californians a rude awakening ShakeAlert said the message was sent seven hours early likely due to"a mixup between time zones set in the test alert system"But two members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors who have adopted the community’s cause anticipated this result.
