Just days after the city approved its first licenses to sell recreational marijuana, local officials found 20 unlicensed businesses in the city are selling tainted and potentially dangerous marijuana.

A survey done by the NY Medical Cannabis Industry Association is sounding the alarm to warn buyers of marijuana tainted with salmonella, pesticides, and more.Three trade groups for the medical marijuana industry are warning buyers about cannabis sold in New York City.

They say many of them were contaminated with E. coli, salmonella, heavy metals, and pesticides. Those contaminants can cause illness and infection in the human body.
