Williamson had a long-shot 2020 presidential campaign but dropped out before the Iowa caucuses.Williamson told the Medill News Service on Thursday that American corporations are trying to “suck the juice” out of democracy, and accused lawmakers of not doing enough to shrink corporate power.
“People who run the government are divided into two categories, those who either don’t care to fix it or do not have the spine to fix it. And neither category should be running this country,” she said. Williamson also railed against the Democratic Party’s decision to change the order of the presidential primaries — shifting South Carolina up to the first spot and bumping down Iowa.“How can you claim to be a champion of democracy when your own process is so undemocratic?” she said, alleging that the move is an effort to rig the primaries for President Biden. Biden, 80, has indicated that he will seek re-election but hasn’t made a formal announcement.
Several Republicans have already joined the 2024 fray including Trump, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
