President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. on Tuesday instructed Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Teodoro Herbosa to ensure the Philippine Health

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. leads a sectoral meeting with Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa in Malacañang on January 14, 2025. Also present are other Cabinet officials, including key members of the economic cluster.

“Make sure that services of PhilHealth remain unhampered … it should not affect the delivery of healthcare services,” President Marcos said during a sectoral meeting at Malacañan Palace. The directive follows the President’s assurance last December, during the signing of the 2025 national budget, that PhilHealth’s operations would remain unaffected by its exclusion from government subsidies.

During the meeting, the President urged the DOH to shift its focus from curative to preventive healthcare, noting that “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.”
