PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday called on the public to cooperate and follow the recommendation and evacuation instructions issued by local government units (LGUs) due to the increasing restiveness of Mayon Volcano. READ HERE:
Marcos made the statement after the provincial government of Albay placed the entire province under a state of calamity to enable the affected LGUs to utilize their calamity funds for disaster response.The President said the government, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development , has prepared 179,000 family food packs and ensured that they have sufficient standby funds as part of the preparation for Mayon volcanic unrest.
Edcel Greco Lagman ordered a preemptive evacuation for residents within the permanent danger zone.According to the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, the partial evacuation report indicated 4,390 families or 16,823 people from 51 barangays have fled the threatened areas.Affected areas are the cities of Legazpi, Tabaco and Ligao and the municipalities of Daraga, Camalig, Guinobatan, Malilipot, Bacacay and Sto.
