Marcos takes the right stance on WPS at Asean meet
IT should not have come as the proverbial breath of fresh air, but President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s expression during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in Laos of a firm and realistic position on the seemingly intractable conflict caused by China over the West Philippine Sea was exactly that.
'He added, 'We call on all Asean member states not to turn a blind eye to the aggressive, coercive and illegal actions of an external power against an Asean member state. For such actions undermines their claims of genuine adherence to our core values.'All credit to President Marcos for standing firm and saying what someone should have said a long time ago. The reaction of Chinese Premier Li to Marcos' comments was not reported, but we presume he was not happy about it.
